ATxSG 2023

Mr Rakesh Jaiswal, Chief I&E Officer (CIEO) of National Quantum Office (NQO) chaired a session at this year’s ATxSG 2023 held on 7th Jun 2023. The session, also titled Quantum Technology Summit was a full-day session held at Singapore Expo. This session was one of eight tracks at the TechXLR8 track of 2023 ATxSG event.

Mr Rakesh kickstarted the session with a welcome note. In this note, he introduced Singapore’s quantum research and innovation ecosystem, which started over twenty years ago. He highlighted the strong quantum research base that Singapore has built over the past two decades and introduced existing national quantum programmes namely the National Quantum Computing Hub (NQCH), National Quantum Fabless Foundry (NQFF) and National Quantum Security Network (NQSN) that supports the translation of quantum research into innovation and enterprise activities.

This was followed by a Panel discussion moderated by A/Prof Paul Griffin from Singapore Management University (SMU). Panellists included CEO of Singapore start-up company Atomionics, representative from a medical technology MNC and representative from a pharma MNC. The panel discussed Quantum’s commercial viability in which they discussed in depth about factors that would drive adoption of Quantum technologies.”

Thematic Lead of Quantum Technologies from the World Economic Forum, Arunima Sankar then gave a presentation titled Responsible Research & Innovation in Quantum Tech. Her presentation highlighted the challenges in quantum research and development. These included a small pool of talent and other barriers that limit international collaboration in quantum research.

Principal Investogator from Centre of Quantum Technologies (CQT), A/Prof Dmitris Angelakis then continued the session with a presentation about considerations for enterprises in adopting quantum computing capabilities.

Singapore emerging start-up, SpeQtral together with a Japanese MNC, concluded the morning session of the Quantum Technology Summit with talk about quantum secure data transfer in a quantum computing era.
